Gold Coast was proud to welcome its largest ever intake of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander junior doctors.

Unnecessary tests and treatments in low-value critical care
Dr Gerben Keijzers is a Senior Staff Specialist Emergency Physician at the Gold Coast University Hospital Emergency Department.
Dr Keijzers balances half of his time between clinical work and academic duties, including teaching medical students and conducting research. His role also includes being an honorary professor of emergency medicine at Bond University and is an associate professor at Griffith University.

Emergency Doctor successful in EMF Queensland funding
Dr Richard Pellatt has successfully secured over $27,000 in funding from the Emergency Medicine Foundation to work on the new project "Drug Overdose with Reduced Consciousness: Patient and Staff Perspectives. A Mixed Methods Study."
Through questionnaires and interviews, the project seeks to understand clinician attitudes to the airway management of patients with drug overdose. Concurrently, Richy and his team will also involve patients, building their narrative into this area of research for the first time.

Proxima lease signed for Child Youth Mental Health Services
The 星空体育's Child Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) is expanding to the Proxima building, with a planned opening in late 2025.
This relocation and expansion mark a transformative step in mental health care for young people and their families.
The new facility on Level 6 of the Proxima building, located within the 星空体育 and Knowledge Precinct, will provide approximately 1,400 square meters of purpose-built space designed to cater to the mental health needs of young people aged 0-25yrs and their families.

Robina Transfer Unit welcomes almost 6,000 patients since April
Almost 6,000 patients have passed through the doors of the Robina Transfer Unit since it opened in April this year as part of the Robina Emergency Department (ED) Expansion. That’s an average of 35 to 40 patients per day. The transfer unit moved to a new space as part of the expansion and works in tandem with the ED, providing a specialised space to assist with patient flow.
